[Manga] Bleach vol 15

I treated myself to the most recent volume of Bleach on Saturday. It hadn't really been in my budget for the month, but I'd had a hard week and I wanted a treat. And when I saw the cover--Kira, looking pretty much the way I felt--I had to have it. I don't have the time or energy for a real review, but I do have a few comments.

The process of achieving bankai is interesting. Yoruichi puts it in terms of a struggle to dominate your zanpakuto, but it seems to be more complicated than that because Zangetsu doesn't seem to be resisting Ichigo. Yes, he's fighting Ichigo, but his words and actions are more like someone who's trying to teach. There's also the thought that if a zanpakuto is formed from a Soul Reaper's spirit then Zangetsu must be part of Ichigo. (Right?) This leads me to the conclusion that this is a process of self-mastery, and not simply domination of another will. And yes, an Ichigo with a sense of self-control would be scary.

I was discussing this with my friend Deslie, who pointed out that the three-day method is probably the only way Ichigo could ever learn bankai, because the only way to get him to focus is to give him an impossible deadline. I had to agree.

Mayuri Kurotsuchi bores me. Ishida is still totally hot.

Yoruichi wins the prize for Most Profound Understatement Ever Uttered By A Cat: "Kisuke has always had a talent for mischief." Also, I was amused by the whole hot springs scene. "I'm gonna drown you..." Poor Ichigo! Toy of an older woman with an impish sense of humor!

On a side note, yesterday I had a conversation that reminded me how wonderful it is to have friends who understand you very well and are ok with that.

"Deslie, I didn't want to bother you before because I know what a trauma moving is, but the quality of my life this week would be vastly improved if I could reread the fight where Kenpachi tries to beat the hell out of Ichigo."
"I'll look for it tonight."
