Very tangentially related, Tim and I thought of you this weekend when we were visiting Hughenden Manor, a country pile that used to belong to Prime Minister Disraeli and is now filled with various trinkets from his life. One of them was an inkwell given to him by a friend as "a token of affection". Said token of affection was a foot long, made of gold, and used to belong to either a Pope or a Tzar (I forget which). I asked Tim when he was going to give me a token of affection, and he promptly offered to buy me some ink cartridges... anyway, it was an inkwell worthy of your ink collection! *grin*
