Tonight I made it to Gauntlet Games for some L5R playin'. I didn't have a deck but, as I expected, Jeremy was able to lend me one. I asked for the simplest military he had, which was a Mantis Orochi deck. It was a really interesting deck that I didn't do justice to--after so long away I'm back to being a beginner in the CCG.
I have played very little the past few years, but every time I have I've promised myself to make the time to play more regularly. I love this game. It's hard to explain it, but...there's something about those moments when I look at what is on the table and look at what is in my hand and my brain goes 'click' and suddenly I can see the game state and I know that I can control it. I want to get good enough that I can do that again. It won't happen for a while, but I was there once--every now and again--and I think I can get there again.
In the meantime, I'm going to get slaughtered a lot. I'll need to resurrect my old battle cry: It will be educational!!!

Date: 2006-06-29 10:11 pm (UTC)Man, Test of Enlightenment is taunting me. I do really want to spend the money on it, but every time I choose not to get the $100 promo sets, it bites me in th butt later. I have to keep telling myself that when the Lotus cycle ends, the set becomes next to worthless. Still, there are a ton of sweet cards in there.
