It rained on Monday. It was raining when my alarm went off at five. Laying in bed listening to rainfall is one of my favoritest things ever, which made getting up that morning really, really difficult. I eventually managed. It was still raining when I went in to work, and though it stopped raining for a long stretch in them middle of the day it rained even more later in the evening when I went home.
This made me happy, because even though I had found a hose and had started my tree-watering crusade I suspect that the tree needs more help than I alone can give. This also gave my gardens a good soaking which meant that I could plant more stuff. Last night after I got home I made a quick shuffle through my seed-box and came up with Bright Lights swiss chard and French purslane. Both are rather old packets, but it was worth a try. I also found some flower seeds for the strip of ground in front of my porch. It's a little late for them, but it is a sheltered area so I might get some flowers before the frost comes.
My green beans are good news/bad news. I have little tiny green beans growing on them, but something is eating the leaves. I haven't yet figured out what the thing is. My Yellow Jelly Bean tomato is festooned with little green tomatoes and is still booming. The Black Russian is still lagging behind, but it is blooming. It has really interesting flowers, too--they are bigger than any other tomato blossoms I've seen before, and they are a clearer, greener yellow color. Very pretty! I'd pick and press some except that this would decrease my tomato crop.
