Wednesday morning thoughts
Jun. 7th, 2006 08:32 amI haven't played the L5R ccg in so long! I started drifting out in Diamond (mostly over my fury about certain storyline issues), and then dropped like a rock when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. I've been trying to get back in, because I do love the game's mechanics, but it's been hard. I used to have time to sort cards and build decks--where did it go? Then there's the issue of finding people to play with; the local group is struggling to reestablish itself. I believe that there are some guys who are going to be playing tonight at Gauntlet, but as I have ongoing personal business that's still ongoing I'll probably have to give it a bye this week.
I finally planted my vegetable garden Saturday morning. I have two tomato plants (Russian Black and Yellow Jelly Bean), lemon basil and two parsley plants, in addition to the sage that overwintered from last year. I also planted several kinds of beans and some amaranth. Since in my heart of hearts I'm a six-year-old I've been making frequent trips to the back yard to see if anything has sprouted yet.
The amaranth is an experiment: it's supposed to be a tasty green that's heat tolerant, so I thought it was worth two square feet of dirt. Yesterday one of my co-workers asked if I'd like a zucchini plant, and I said yes. I don't know if I'll try to squeeze it into the garden or try to grow it as a container plant on my porch. I don't know how soon I'll get the plant, so maybe I'll have time to see if the scarlet runner bean come up: if they don't the zucchini can have their spot.
This past week there's been a beautiful smell in my bedroom. I'm certain it comes from the tree in the neighbor's back yard, which is a little frustrating because I'm not quite sure what kind of tree it is is; tree identification has always been one of my weak spots. It's a tall tree with long pinnate leaves and small, uninteresting green flowers borne on big spiky clusters. The fragrance is something in the jasmine family with lemon and green notes and something that almost makes it smell like it should clash but doesn't quite. I guess I need to pay off my library fines and check out a book on it.
