Tonight is the holiday party for the store I work at. (As we are a retail establishment, our holiday party takes place in January and is more akin to a we-survived-the-holidays party.) I most likely won't go. Down through the years I have frequently chosen not to go because while I work at this store, I am not a part of its community, and being at the party merely underlines that fact. No one has asked me about my plans, so I haven't had to say anything on it. But come Monday I expect our new general manager will ask, and then I will have come up with an explanation. I could use the truth, but "I am not one of the shiny happy people" sounds a little too high-schooly, and I have no intention of going into the real details. *sigh* Parties are supposed to be happy occasions.
Then there is the fact that yesterday the Kitchen Manager (which is what the assistant deli manager is called, for reasons that have never been clear to me) renewed his campaign to prevent me from using any knives at all. (He unquestionably would say that's not what he's about at all, but you know what? This is *my* LJ. If he wants to tell his side of the story he can bloody well get his own blog.) I find this amazing frustrating because 1) I have gotten mixed messages in the past from him and the Deli Manager over which knives the Bakery is allowed to use and when, and 2) IF HE DIDN'T WANT ME TO USE THE NEWER KNIVES HE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED HIS BOSS FROM THROWING OUT THE *expletive deleted* OLD KNIVES. *expletive deleted* I'm not going to use an 18" bread knife for cutting up a pan of brownies, nor am I going to use a cheese cleaver!
I have decided the only way to resolve the situation is to go buy some bakery knives, and then I won't have to deal with him again.
