Perfume: Sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden
Sep. 17th, 2009 10:07 pmLast night I had gone to the local TJ Maxx because I need some Violetta di Parma (long story, someday I'll explain) and my research had indicated that sometimes you could find it there. It was a long shot that did not pay off, but I hadn't been holding my breath so no harm was done.
On the other hand, they did have Sunflowers. This is a perfume that had caught my eye when I had been trawling Fragrancenet.com for jasmine scents: it's described as having rose, cedar, lemon, musk, moss, amber, mandarin, and jasmine notes. With a line-up like that, I'd thought, how can one go wrong? The bottle was gratifyingly discounted so I decided to try it.
When I first put it on tonight I was unimpressed. There were a few floral notes, but mostly it was thin and chemically. A few minutes later it abruptly blossomed into this huge jasmine scent and I equally abruptly decided that this was a keeper. Ah, jasmine. You will never replace rose in my heart (or my perfume shelf) but that doesn't mean I don't love you madly.
It's been a few hours since I first applied it, and something interesting has happened. I can still smell the perfume, and it's still jasmine, but it's a different jasmine. The first one was jasmine-and-citrus? (I'm thinking mostly of lemon, but I don't have enough familiarity with mandarin to discount it) and now it is jasmine-and-something-else. Whatever, it is a neat trick.
Verdict: a keeper that I will wear a lot.
