daidoji_gisei: loaves of bread (bread)
I'm not dead. Nor have I abandonded my journal. It's just that I was to busy having fun during my visit to Karin and Ami to reflect and write about it. And then I came home and was very busy at work and was too exhausted to reflect, much less write.

Work has been busy because it's November, and that means the run-up to Thanksgiving. The store had a big sample fair for customers the first weekend of November to showcase our Thanksgiving items, and for me that meant that I had to get the new pumpkin pie into production so that we could roll it out the weekend we were sampling it. We've had a pumpkin pie recipe forever--by which I mean it was in use already when I was hired--and I've never been satisfied with it. The pumpkin taste is wan and the spice profile is odd; but it was traditional to the store and for more than a decade I've been afraid to mess with it.

This fall I decided that enough was enough. I took my family pumpkin pie recipe, scaled it up, and declared that we were going to start baking it instead. This meant making a bunch of pie crusts, programing the new pie into the scale, having it put into the POS, making signage, etc, etc. I think it will be worth it, but it meant that I had to hit the ground running when I got back from my trip.

My pumpkin pie recipe is on my journal, by the way. I'm too lazy to put a link in here, but it is under the 'recipes' tag with the name of Ancestral Pumpkin Pie.
