Eaten FAQ [Judgement Night]

daidoji_giseiThis is a document I wrote up for the players in my game, to clarify the nature of what they would be (sometimes) dealing with. I think I've now covered all the important stuff.
The Eaten are going to be somewhat important to the game as Judgement Night unfolds, so I want to make sure that everyone has a clear understanding of what they are dealing with. I will update this document as more issues surface.
1. What is an Eaten?
An Eaten is a human body which is hosting a demon lord. It has normal human strength and endurance, as well as the memory and skills of the deceased human. The intelligence and will controlling the body, however, is that of the demon lord.
2. What are their capabilities?
They fight using the demon's skill in combat, to the limit of the capabilities of the human body. They can use demonic magic, but try to avoid it as it is a dead give-away to their true nature.
3. How are Eaten made?
An Eaten is made when a human handles a sword that has been trapped by a demon lord. Even drawing such a sword puts a human at risk of possession.
4. So a person doesn't have to get stabbed by the sword to become an Eaten?
No. In fact, from the demon lord's point of view stabbing is counter-productive, because human bodies tend to die after being stabbed.
5. But in the story you wrote Marguerite Dayson got stabbed.
Indeed. A Fire Saint hearing this story would wonder what Marguerite had done to get a demon lord so angry it wanted to kill her twice over.
6. So why did you write a story where someone dies?
No L5R player would ever wonder that.
7. Is a demon lord limited to one Eaten at a time?
There is evidence to suggest that a demon lord can control more than one at at time, but it isn't known if this is usual, or if there is a practical upper limit to the number. It is known that multiple Eaten are very rare, probably due to the difficulty in creating them in the first place.
8. Fire Saints are not supposed to kill humans. Does that apply to Eaten?
No. An Eaten is a demon walking around in a human skin, and is to be killed as quickly as possible. Naturally, it is considered Very Important to be sure you are really dealing with an Eaten before pulling the trigger.
