Minor Decadances

I had a good weekend, but then any weekend that starts with keilbasa and gooseberry pie for breakfast is going to have something going for it. I don't normally have pie for breakfast (no, really) but I had a whole pie to eat and I had decided to be methodical about it eating it before it went bad. I'd ordered the pie from the deli's supplier on a whim; I had never had gooseberry pie and I was very curious as to what it tasted like and if it was good.
As it turns out, it's very, very tasty. If you like sweet-tart things this is your perfect pie. The only thing it lacked was vanilla ice cream, but there are some things I will not do for breakfast and ice cream is one of them. I think I may order another one after I clean out room in my freezer; then I can cut it into pieces, freeze them, and dole them out slowly in a rational manner.
While on the topic of tart things: last week I took my discretionary funds and went shopping for some dwarf citrus trees for my apartment. I had a miniature orange in my dorm room when I was an undergrad and when it bloomed my room smelled divine--I've never stopped wanting another, and with all the south-facing windows I have I decided now was the time.
I spent some time gazing soulfully at the Logee Greenhouse website--which is incredibly dangerous, not only do they have a large selection of fruit-bearing trees, they have gardenias! and jasmines! They have so many jasmines they can offer collections for people who can't make up their mind! *swoon*--ah, what was I talking about? Oh, yeah, the thought finally came to me that some of the local garden centers might have them in their houseplant section. A smaller selection, surely, but instant gratification!
So I made a few phone calls and found a place that had limes and Meyer lemons. I zipped down as soon as I could and found that they had lemons and limes in 6" pots and lemons in 10" pots. I noticed that one of the lemons in the big pots had two large, dark green fruits hanging on the branches, and swiftly decided that I wanted that one. (Today while watering I discovered a third lemon. Score!) I also bought a lime, so I now have two dwarf trees in my living room window. I think I want more, but it will have to wait: my next allotment of discretionary funds has been earmarked for silk long underwear, which has the advantage of being both decadent and useful.
In other news, I found a pattern for a do-it-yourself bento caddy here at Crochet Uncut. I have two plastic plates, of the type with deep wells and lids, for my lunches and though I like them a lot they aren't as useful on the days when half of my lunch is made up of things that should not be refrigerated. (You know, like bread and tomatoes fresh from the garden.) Assembling a set of plastic containers in useful sizes and then making a caddy to fit would be ideal. I must contemplate this.
