Friday morning Deslie made me a deliriously happy woman by showing up to work with a copy of Bleach volume 7. We had been looking for this for so long that even Deslie's seven-year-old daughter knew about it which turned out to be a good thing because it was her daughter that noticed that Lee Booksellers had a copy of it.

This of course derailed my plan to clock into work extra-early because I just had to sit down and speed-read through it and--wow. Volume 7 is amazing because in spite of all the truly serious, horrible things that happen in it it's also the funniest volume so far. And Renji! How do I love thee! You're rough! You're tough! You wear flowered yukata on your off-duty hours! *swoon* (Yes, I am a Crane player. Do you have a problem with with that?)

Saturday started with a trip to the Farmer's Market. It was a little depressing because while lots of people still had radishes the quality seems to be going down. This is predicable, as this is Nebraska and summer is coming round but that doesn't make me happier about it. I bought 2 bunches of radishes on hope, and then picked up a bunch of green onions, a zucchini and an English cucumber. The cucumber is an experiment: I've never been all that fond of the regular kind (except in the form of dill pickles) and I'm curious to see if the English variety is better. Also I've been getting odd cravings for a Japanese sea weed and cucumber salad that I tried last summer.

The only other useful thing I got done on Saturday was to locate the rest of my seed packet collection. Only two of my bean varieties have shown up, and the amaranth isn't coming up either, so I need to find something else to put in their place.

At 5:30 am Sunday morning I was dismembering a chicken. This isn't one of my usual Sunday morning activities, but as I was walking home from my adoration shift it occurred to me that if I got the chicken cut up and put in the crock-pot right away I could have chicken adobo for lunch. This I did, and while it was good it wasn't as good as I remember it and I'm not sure why. I don't think it's a trick of memory, because I've served it to to Karin and Ami in the past and they raved over how good it was. One possibility is that I'm not using the best kind of soy sauce for this--I'm using Kikkoman's (sp?) low-sodium soy sauce these days, I think the last time I made adobo I was using a salty-as-heck Phillippine brand I found at my favorite Asian grocery. Also this time I just cooked it until the meat was done, and in the past it seems to me that I cooked it until the meat was falling off the bone and dissolving into the sauce which, given the lusciousness of adobo sauce, could only be a good thing. I guess this calls for more research. (Oh, the hardship.)

In the afternoon I went off to my Sunday afternoon crochet/hang out meeting with Genevieve and Pam. I finished the two pot holders I'm making for Karin, and I have so much yarn left over I'm considering making a few dish clothes. I'm not sure who else I could use the yarn on--I chose fuchsia and a fuchsia/orange/yellow mix for her potholders for reasons which Karin will instantly understand as it stems from something back in our undergrad days.

All in all, it was a good weekend. I didn't get as much as I wanted done, but I never do. I at least got laundry done, and chicken adobo cooked, and reread volume 7 repeatedly. I am content.
