Date: 2007-06-04 04:22 pm (UTC)2)25, 26 in less than a month now.
3)Unfortunately single.
4)Lord of the Rings trilogy, of course.
5)Chop Suey, by the below.
6)System of a Down. (Man, how much have I changed to be at the point where it's them?)
7)I try hard to be clean these days. Have had no luck with my room so far, but *personally* I tend to not represent the unhygienic geek stereotypes.
8)Neither. I have an utter phobia of anything making hole in my precious skin :-D.
9)On other forums, yes. I keep hoping to one day make it to GenCon to meet you (among others), but so far no luck.
10)Live and let live, although I am not opposed to taxes used to finance basic services (healthcare, education, and providing minimal comfort so people don't wind up sleeping in the streets).
11)Tired old question. It's both half-empty and half-full, obviously.
12)I'd keep secrets from nearly anybody if I thought it was warranted.
13)Well, you weren't talking with me at the moment, but my favorite memory involving you is when I first learned you had been recruited into the Story Team :-). I think I spent a minute starring at the screen in shock :-). (Not that I didn't think you could do it - just didn't think you WOULD do it).
14)CHEESE! :-D
15)I still live with my parents at 25, yay. Definitely something I hope to correct within the next year, though.
16. 1)Money. Not in the "I want untold millions" sense, but in the "I'd like to have enough money that I can focus on what I really want to do with my life (write) and not on having to get monies to pay the bills."
2)More confidence in the aforementioned writing abilities, and in my ability to further improve them.
3)Finally getting myself a long-term girlfriend, in a caring (if not out and out loving) relationship.
17) As long as you make the cake and I watch; because if I make the case, watch out for food poisoning!
Don't ask me to cook. On the other hand, I'm decided curious about all those nice little things you keep mentioning here and there...:)
18)Canada. Used to be Japan, but then I realized I'd make an awful poor Japanese and decided to be happy with what I am.
19)I tend to repeat myself a lot, and get annoying that way.
20)Depend. Do killing, maiming and torturing innocent characters count? If not, yeah, sure. Otherwise, yeesh :-p.
21)History way back when. These days (at uni level), economics, surprisingly enough.
22)It's a french canadian sort of accent.
23)I'd make you get instant messaging and give me your address :-).
24)Boxers yay.
25)Let me put it this way : Does anyone (perverts and people with an interest in my humiliation not withstanding) REALLY want to see me in skirts?
Trousers all the way, of course.
26)Alcohool socially, cigarettes never.
27)Exchange few but significant emails reminiscing on our best times as friends, so as to leave on a positive note
28) No, because you got it from my journal to begin with :-D.

Date: 2007-06-04 06:48 pm (UTC)2. Age: 27. I eagerly count the days until I'm 30, as Ursula Le Guin has expressed the opinion that no writer produces their best work until after they're 30. I look forward to writing my Great Anglo-American Novel on April 3rd, 2010.
3. Single or Taken: Married to a man who also can go from a serious discussion on quantum theory to extemporising songs about elephants in less than two seconds. He also grows really good strawberries.
4. Favourite Movie: Anything SF/F made in the 80s, bought for under £3 in a bargain-basement discount store, and watched in the company of my best friends, a large bottle of vodka, and chocolate ice cream. My favourite part of any film is the snark/fannish/meta-commentry afterwards.
5. Favourite Song or Album: Whichever one I'm currently obsessively listening to on endless loop, because it matches some piece of writing beating around inside my head. So at the moment, that would be Sweet Child o' Mine by Guns n' Roses, Gethsemane by Nightwish, Miracles by the Pet Shop Boys, and Swan Lake.
6. Favourite Band/Artist: See above. Though when I was a teenager I obsessively bought Mike Oldfield cds.
7. Dirty or Clean: It depends what it is. A perfectly clean toolbox is a sad, sad sight. So is a dirty fishtank.
8. Tattoos and/or Piercings: I harbour idle dreams of getting a Really Really Cool piece of ink. My only problem is that I can't visualise what this would look like. Apart from the fact that it would be cool. When they invent programmable holographic painless tattoos, I will _totally_ be there.
9. Do we know each other outside of LJ?: Nancy! How can you forget our torrid, tempestuous affair!
10. What's your philosophy on life?:
Against Entropy
The worm drives helically through the wood
And does not know the dust left in the bore
Once made the table integral and good;
And suddenly the crystal hits the floor.
Electrons find their paths in subtle ways,
A massless eddy in a trail of smoke;
The names of lovers, light of other days—
Perhaps you will not miss them. That’s the joke.
The universe winds down. That’s how it’s made.
But memory is everything to lose;
Although some of the colors have to fade,
Do not believe you’ll get the chance to choose.
Regret, by definition, comes too late;
Say what you mean. Bear witness. Iterate.
—John M. Ford
and
I got out of bed
on two strong legs.
It might have been
otherwise. I ate
cereal, sweet
milk, ripe, flawless
peach. It might
have been otherwise.
I took the dog uphill
to the birch wood.
All morning I did
the work I love.
At noon I lay down
with my mate. It might
have been otherwise.
We ate dinner together
at a table with silver
candlesticks. It might
have been otherwise.
I slept in a bed
in a room with paintings
on the walls, and
planned another day
just like this day.
But one day, I know,
it will be otherwise.
- Jane Kenyan
11. Is the bottle half-full or half-empty?: Either way, if it's at all alcoholic, I'm already under the table.
12. Would you keep a secret from me if you thought it was in my best interest?: I think that you are the best judge of your own interest.
13. What is your favourite memory of us?: Hangovers of the Clans, in the hotel room. 'Nuff said.
14. What is your favourite guilty pleasure?: Laurell K Hamilton's Merry Gentry books. Who can resist a series entirely constructed around the idea of having sex with and endless parade of conveniently-colour-coded men, each angstier than the last?
15. Tell me one odd/interesting fact about you: LiveJournal hates me, and continually insists that I continue on the next comment.

Date: 2007-06-04 06:49 pm (UTC)17. Can we get together and make a cake?: I think that the world is indeed ripe for the possibilities of trans-Atlantic bakery. Quick! I need a small industrial robot, a couple of webcameras, and a good internet connection!
18. Which country is your spiritual home?: Anarres, from Ursula Le Guin's novel "The Dispossessed".
19. What is your big weakness?: I am incapable of writing anything concisely.
20. Do you think I'm a good person?: I think that you make an excellent person, and wish that there were more in your class.
21. What was your best/favourite subject at school?: My grades were identical in just about everything except French (my school had an interesting form of streaming-by-ability where if you were in the top groups for one subject, you _had_ to be in the top group in _all_ subjects. This made life interesting for me, coming over from the States and joining a French class where everyone else had started learning the language two years ago...), so best would be difficult. English was always the easiest. Favourite would be a toss-up between English Literature, Physics, Maths, and Art.
22. Describe your accent: Unplaceable. It's what you get if you're born and raised in the States, then move to the south of England in your early teens. I'm used to Brits listening to me with a slightly puzzled expression as they try to work out where I'm from (Americans peg me as British, and then look alarmed as the conversation progresses and my accent starts sliding westwards in sympathy with their own).
23. If you could change anything about me, would you?: Yes. I would give you superpowers, including the ability to teleport, so that you could come and talk shop with me over delicious cake. Also, then you would be able to go out and fight crime, and I could be your naive sidekick!
24. What do you wear to sleep?: Invariably, something that makes anyone who sees it say in horror, "Won't you be too _warm_ in that?" I believe in insulation, and am working on converting my winter-weight duvet into a convenient and stylish pair of pyjamas.
25. Trousers or skirts?: I think that either look silly on animals, and await with interest the day our first sentient robots have to decide on sartorial issues. For myself, nearly always trousers, though recently I have been wooed to skirts purely to show off my bitchin' knee-high boots.
26. Cigarettes or alcohol?: If I start to smoke, please assume that I am on fire and take appropriate action. Also, I can get high on a crepe suzette, so am a very cheap date.
27. If I only had one day to live, what would we do together?: I assume that some terrible catastrophe has occured, in which you are stuck in my company despite your imminent demise. The logical scenario is that we are stuck on a desert island, and have finally resorted to drawing lots to see who shall eat whom. Thus, I predict that we spend your last day wandering the island looking for herbs, while you attempt to steel me for the dreadful deed by describing in glorious and mouthwatering detail how good you will taste broiled, while I weep salt tears and beg you to chow down on my arm instead, until finally you hit me over the head with a rock so that you can spend your last few hours before nobly leaping into the stockpot in peace. Later, o' course, I am rescued, and tragically torn to pieces by a ravening mob of fans who have been reduced to incoherent savagery by the news that Always Coming Home must now remain forever unfinished.
28. Will you repost this so i can fill it out for you?: If I can overcome my crushing guilt at having posted nothing but memes recently, yes.

Later, o' course, I am rescued, and tragically torn to pieces by a ravening mob of fans who have been reduced to incoherent savagery by the news that Always Coming Home must now remain forever unfinished.
Happily for you, that mob doesn't exist. At last year's Gencon no one asked me about ACH, but I did get one young woman after the L5R Seminar who wanted to know if there was any way she could convince me to write the MYT for Unicorn.

15. Tell me one odd/interesting fact about you: If I'm going to gamble, I play penny slots. I've only ever played the Megabucks machine once.
16. You can have three wishes (for yourself, so forget all the 'world peace etc' malarky) - what are they? A house, large enough for both me and my husband to have our own computer rooms/library. Enough money to live comfortably without having to worry. A new laptop every two years.

25. Trousers or skirts? Trousers.
