This morning over breakfast I read something on the AEG forum that made me think, "So, what if Kyoso no Oni did give interviews?" You can read the result of this non-musical question here on the AEG forum.

Meanwhile, today's Girl Genius had one of the Greatest Sentences Ever. You can see the whole page here, but as the majesty of the sentence in question can be appreciated even without context I give it here:
"This outfit says everything I have ever dreamed of saying about postmodern desconstructive faux-nouveau absurdist organic neoclassicism, and it does so without irony."

I am generally in awe of Phil Foglio, but sometimes I am more awestruck than usual.

Never write Crab fiction. Yes, I know they are one of y/our favorite clans, but they don't like your writing style so just move on. Also, make sure to never include Crab characters in fiction. You hate chuck norris, so there is no point to it.

Well, it's been awhile. I had intended to update my LJ daily while at Gencon, but it turns out that the hotel I was staying in charged like $12 a day for Internet service. I like journaling, but not that much.

Gencon was a lot of fun, and I should have posted something about it yesterday evening when I was tired, but happy. As it is, my mood went into a downturn this noon when I was cruising the various L5R forums.

Due to a side tournament at Gencon, there is a buzz going on about Bayushi Saya. That is not the problem. The problem is that the buzz has brought back the claim that "The Flowers, The Snow" was the fiction that the Scorpion players were owed for winning the personality send-in contest some time back. She was in ONE SCENE of that fiction--how could anyone think this was the prize result? To add to the irritation, I didn't need to put her--or any other Scorpion--in that fiction at all. I just thought I would do something nice for the Scorpion players and show one of their courtiers doing some courtier-stuff. So true the saying: Petting a Scorpion with a compassionate hand....

At this point I never want to write for a Scorpion character again. There is no pleasing a fan base that regards giving one of their personalities a speaking role as an insult.

Something for the Department of Writing-Related Stuff: A few weeks ago someone on the L5R Story Forum asked the S Team a bunch of writing questions, and lo! got answers. Since I know some of my flist are writerly types, I thought I'd link it here: Story Conception Questions.

Nothing important happened today, as I had it off. I have a comp day from Easter, and since I'm in the middle of training a new night baker I took it today. So I did some cleaning and a some reading and a lot of laying about. I think the laying about was good for me: March has been entirely too stressful at work and I feel uncomfortably close to shredding. I have some writing projects to be done, but having gotten a full night's sleep--two nights in a row!--I feel up to the task.

We had lots of thunder and lighting last night. To be truthful I'm just guessing on the thunder part because I know we had lots of lighting; I woke up several times last night to the realization that I was seeing lighting flashes through my closed eyelids. It was a neat effect, but not conducive to a full night's sleep. This is perhaps one one of the reasons I've felt so non-energetic today. I'd like to get to bed early tonight, but I really need to polish off my current writing project, because I have several new projects coming down the chute after this one. At least with all this rain I don't have garden work tempting me away from my computer!

It's thundering again now. I checked the NWS website earlier and there seems to be a band of storms from southern Nebraska through most of Kansas. Lincoln will catch its northernmost edge; Beatrice (which, if you ever find yourself in Nebraska is pronounced "bee-at-ris"), Maryville and Manhattan are going to be in the thick of it. This is just not a good weekend for Kansas.

I just got up to check my bread in the oven and opened the kitchen door to see what was up: it's raining again. *sigh*

EDIT: I just rechecked the NWS radar: the storm line has extended northward to Norfolk (which is pronounced "nor-fork"--I'm not making this up), so Lincoln is now in the middle of it again. I think when my bread gets out of the oven I might just give up and go to bed.
