Leaves from a Baker's Notebook
Jul. 6th, 2006 04:59 pmIn the words of my honored father, this week I've been busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest.
It's the normal consequence of being closed for a holiday, amplified by the requirements of the paint project. Missing a day of production always leaves us with scanty shelves, and having to spend most of Wednesday baking bread to make up for not having baked bread Tuesday night set us back further. That Tara, Catherine and I needed to spend the first hour of Wednesday just moving all the bakery stuff back into the bakery before we could even start baking did not help at all. Like Alice, we have been running as fast as we can in order to stay in one place.
The newly-painted walls are worth it, though. In a few days we will have moved past the production bottle-neck, the bakery will be humming at its usual pace, and we will still be glorying in our brighter, warmer working space. It is good!
